CRACYP Sustainable Rural Development and Tree Planting in Ecuador
General Information:CRACYP’s mission is ’Progreso Verde’ or ’Green Progress’ – social and economic development in a way which protects the environment. CRACYP build environmental awareness and motivate and assist local communities to take practical conservation action and their sustainable development projects help to increase incomes to the point where people are able to think further ahead than the next meal and can afford to care about the environment. In return, the local communities must use a small percentage of the extra income gained to plant trees – which stabilise and enrich their land and provide them with fruits or other useful products. CRACYP advise on the reforestation process and train people in sustainable agriculture and add value to their crops by processing them locally, rather than selling them on as raw materials. In this way, the communities improve their quality of life and preserve the environment on which their future depends.

CRACYP projects include a community enterprise of sugarcane farmers producing organic alcohol for sale on a fair trade basis and farmstay ecotourism in rural Ecuador.

CRACYP is an Ecuadorian registered not–for–profit organisation, MBS. N. 02544.
