If you use commercially available air fresheners, you cannot help but breathe them in – the particles are in the air around you. Depending upon whether you use products in a spray or a wick, ingredients can include a selection of the following -
Chemical perfumes and colourants, ethyl alcohol, isopropyl alcohol, glycol ethers, metazene, aluminium chlorhydrol, bromsalicylanilide 2,3,4,5-BIS(2-butylene) tetrahydrofural, cellosolve acetate, dichlorodifluoromethanol, o-phenylphenol, lauryl methacrylate, p-dichlorobenzene, trichloromonofluoromethane, methylene chloride, formaldehyde, piperonyl butoxide, zinc phenolsulfonate, petroleum distillates, methoxychlor, pyrethrin.
Here at Scene Green we attempt to provide research on products so that you can make informed purchasing decisions. One of the ways in which we do this is to investigate product ingredients. But in this case, we really did think that researching every one of these substances was overkill.
Throw open the windows!!
If you would like to spray a nice smellie around your house, natural air fresheners are available and are usually made from a mixture of essential oils and plant essences (although some also include added natural ingredients such as gum arabic to improve consistency). But as always, please be aware that infants should not be exposed to some essential oils – if in doubt, contact the manufacturer.
